Hong Kong Cellist Society Instruction

Hong Kong Cellist Society is a non-profit and non-governmental organization founded in 2004, with the aim in promoting and arousing greater interest in the cello. Currently there are 1600+ active members in the society. Throughout the years, we have expanded our horizons to include a variety of instruments as well as different genres of music. We have on going instrument course for adult and junior. We have also organized concerts of different varieties. Our hope is to encourage our members to gain more awareness and appreciation for the classical music scene in Hong Kong.

Each year, we present a host of different music performances as well as the annual Maestro Cello Festival. Past concerts include: Deep Autumn 2012, Clara Tsang Cello Recital 2012, Cappuccino Moment, Wong Ka Lap Cello Recital 2010 and 2011, Guitar Fest 2010, Sibei Weng Flute Recital in Sep 2009, Black Chamber Ensemble 2008, Sarah Tsang Cello Recital 2008, Jeffrey Solow Cello Recital and Masterclass 2007. In 2009, the first Hong Kong Cello Festival was presented. The festival program consisted of a Cello Recital by Artem Konstantinov, a Richard Bamping Masterclass, a Cheung Pei Chien Masterclass and a Cello Factory Participant’s concert. In 2010, the annual Hong Kong Cello Festival put together with a series of events including a Hong Kong City Chamber Orchestra concert featuring Giovanni Sollima, a Giovanni Sollima Masterclass, and two Cello Factory Participants Concerts. In 2011, our third Hong Kong Cello Festival, we were especially pleased to bring a truly fantastic lineup, including two concerto appearances by violinist Sylvia Chow, and cellist Wong Ka Lap, alongside with the Hong Kong Chamber Orchestra, a Guitar and Flute Duo by classical guitarist Stephen Chau and flutist Chan Kwok Chiu and our 7th Annual Participants’ Concerts. Guitar, flute and cello exhibitions and workshops were also held throughout the festival.

HKCS is pleased to present a program called the Young Musicians Performance Program (YMPP) in July 2010. This program’s aim is to help young musicians of high calibre start their performance career. We organize quality concerts and recitals for these young talents at different venues. In 2010, YMPP brought a cross border concert to Dalian with the help of Shui On Land. It gave us great pleasure and excitement knowing we are sharing and communicating through music, bonding two cities closer, enriching the Arts and Music cultures to an ever-growing music lover population. We would like to continue and expand our great relationship together to further develop a cultural and music exchange between Hong Kong and China.

Clara’s passion in her pursuit of music has given her the drive to enrich the Arts and Music scene in the city right where we live. Her efforts throughout the years have reached many people, despite the limited resources and funding our Society can provide. Her drive to perform and her dedication in music sharing has given her an idea of a new project. In 2012, Forever Red Project created and headed by her draws together different musicians in collaboration where the only goal is to spark a catalytic reaction of music explosion. Established and emerging artists work together, and every three months, we bring to stage a new and exciting fusion of different styles of music, a vivid and colourful collaboration amongst musicians and artists.

We are excited to partner with you to continue exploring different ways to make music an integral part of our society, Without a doubt, having music in our every day lives enrich our lives and our sense of well being. With your gift, we can make a difference in our very own city together.

Hong Kong Cellist Society’s commitment in spreading the love for music is exemplified by our continual efforts to bring more opportunities of music awareness to the masses. We aspire to provide music lovers with a channel to appreciate and enjoy greater exposure to music, whether you choose to play an instrument or purely for the pleasure in listening to music.
